My Christmas Weekend

Well, let me first start with sharing some photos from The Story Tour I told you a bit about last week.  I didn't have pictures of everyone, but Selah, Francesca Battistelli, Natalie Grant, Newsboys, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Anthem Lights all sang 18 different songs telling stories from the Bible.

 It was fabulous!

Now, on to Christmas.  I had such an awesome weekend!  On Saturday, we went to my uncle's house, ate my aunt's delicious Swedish dinner (she's an amazing cook), opened presents, and then hung out for a while.  So much fun to be with the family!

My cousin and I

Sunday, we woke up and opened gifts as a family.

My brother and I put our money together to buy my sister a fish tank and a gift card to buy her own fish. :)
My brother got a hat from my parents.
Yes, I know there's a deer on my wall.  His name is Bobby.  Just kidding.  I'll be covering him up in January.  But, I got this awesome comforter for Christmas!  I had picked it out and stood in line for 2 hours with it on Black Friday.  It was worth it! :)
This was a gift from my brother.  I saw it a couple weeks ago and fell in love!
Gift card for Maurice's and some gloves from my sister.  Now, these are no ordinary gloves.  The black fingertips are made of special fabric that can be used on touch devices, more specifically my iPod touch!  Amazing!

On Sunday afternoon, my aunt, uncle, grandpa, and cousin came over to play games and such.  A couple hours were spent on our frozen pond playing shoe hockey, as is tradition.  And I think a couple days will be taken for recovery. :)  We also had a great dinner prepared by my mom and played a round of Name 5, a new game our family got for Christmas.  It didn't go as smoothly as we had hoped, but I blame it on the fact that it was boys against girls and the boys were being unfair. :)

On Monday, we had my dad's family over.  It was a fun day; pretty laid back.

On Thursday, I have LIVE for Christ's Christmas party.  Pretty excited about that.

I also get to go visit a friend on Friday!  Can't wait!

During my break, I created a 10 page, 30 day study schedule for my next CLEP test that I'll be starting to study in January: Introductory Sociology.

Well, I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week.  Take advantage of your break if you're on one!

161. having a whole day at home
162. a fun time with a new friend
163. Christmas movie night
164. safe driving
165. Swedish dinners
166. thoughtful gifts from loving people

168. frozen pond to play shoe hockey on

Only One

Since Black Friday, the number of times I've heard the song How Many Kings by Downhere is innumerable.  Almost so many times, it just slides by.  But the lyrics in that song are just amazing:
Follow the star to the place unexpected                                                                          Would you believe after all we've projected                                                                           A child in a manger                                                                                                         Lowly and small, the weakest of all                                                                         Unlikeliness hero, wrapped in his mother's shawl                                                                 Just a child                                                                                                                            Is this who we've waited for?
Cause how many kings stepped down from their thrones?                                                 How many lords have abandoned their homes?                                                                 How many greats have become the least for me?                                                               How many gods have poured out their hearts                                                                       To romance a world that has torn all apart?                                                                       How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Bringing our gifts for the newborn Savior                                                                              All that we have whether costly or meek                                                                      Because we believe                                                                                                          Gold for his honor and frankincense for his pleasure                                                           And myrrh for the cross he'll suffer                                                                                       Do you believe, is this who we've waited for?
How many kings stepped down from their thrones?                                                           How many lords have abandoned their homes?                                                                 How many greats have become the least for me?                                                               How many gods have poured out their hearts                                                                       To romance a world that has torn all apart?                                                                       How many fathers gave up their sons for me?                                                                    Only one did that for me
That last line is what makes this song my favorite.  I always get goosebumps when I hear those last words.  Do you realize just how amazing it is that not only did God send us, undeserving human beings, a Savior, but He sent the Savior as a child.  A little baby.  And He did it so that Jesus could relate to us!  No, He never sinned, but He was tempted, He had to grow up in the world, He had friends that betrayed Him, He was mocked, He even had to go to school!

My family is really big on traditions on my mom's side.  I don't remember any Christmas that has been different.  It's hard for me not to get wrapped up in family time during Christmas.  Playing games, and celebrating Christmas together is really special for me, but I think sometimes I focus on that more than the real Reason for the season: Jesus.  Some people focus on gifts, some on family or friends, some on decorating, some on traditions, and maybe we don't mean to, but stop and look: why is there a time in December to give/receive gifts, continue traditions, spend time with family and friends, decorate?  Why is there Christmas?  Because this is the time when Christ came as an infant--it's His birthday!  You know, we get presents on our birthdays, but why do we get presents on Jesus'?  My family's main celebration is on Christmas Eve, and on Christmas Day we have relaxing, fun day.  On Christmas Day, we have a birthday cake for Jesus.  I think this helps to take the focus off of ourselves during this season.  I'm just waiting for Jesus to blow out His own candles (that would be super cool)! :)

 So, to conclude:

Merry Christmas!!!

An Amazing Week

 *sigh*

I had a great week!  You already know that I passed my Psychology test, but that was such a blessing that I'm not letting you forget it! :)

Thursday was an absolutely awesome day!  My mom drove me to the cities to meet up with some other CollegePlus! students and we went to Feed My Starving Children.  That was so much fun!  I love it how at the end, they pray over the boxes of food that were packed with the volunteers.  After that, we ate a deliciously healthy dinner at Culver's.  But to end our day, we went to see Triple Espresso, a hilarious, clean comedy show.  My stomach hurt so bad as we were walking out.  Of course the ride home was fun because everyone was very wound up from laughing so hard.
The only sad part of my day was that I didn't bring my camera.  On our way home, the moon was just rising and it was a half-moon, huge, orange, and beautiful!  There is no way to actually describe that moon.

Saturday?  On Saturday, my dad took my brother and I to The Story Tour, like I told you last week.  I didn't really know what to expect.  I knew Natalie Grant, Newsboys, Selah, Steven Curtis Chapman, Francesca Battistelli, Anthem Lights, Randy Frazee, and Max Lucado were all going to be live, but never dreamed it would be as great as it was!  Not only did those artists alternate singing 18 different songs, they had an amazing corresponding video to go along with each song!  Each song told the story of someone different: Adam & Eve, Abraham & Sarah, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Ruth & Naomi, David, Daniel, Esther, Job, Mary, Jesus, the Thief on the cross, Mary Magdalene, the Disciples, Paul, and the Second Coming.  Check out this video!  If they ever do this again, do yourself a favor -- you will not be disappointed!  You can also go onto The Story's store and order the DVD of what I saw!

Yesterday was a very special day also, for me.  I had two separate video calls with my CP! (which is an abbreviation for CollegePlus!) "sisters" and friends.  What an encouraging time as we talked about school, life, and God's blessings and guidance.  I can't wait to see how God continues my friendships with these girls!

This week I'm thankful for...
151. CollegePlus! friends
152. Do Hard Things by Alex & Brett Harris
153. The Story Tour
154. Skype video calls with friends
155. orders arriving in the mail
156. little boys volunteering to pray in front of 88 people
157. clean comedies
158. the privilege of lighting the advent candle at church with my family
159. anticipating Christmas
160. my parents

My favorite Christmas album this week is: A Christmas Story by Point of Grace.

And this week, most Minnesotans actually have to dream of a White Christmas.  I wonder how long we'll have to dream? :)

 Have a blessed week,

Living in the Moment

I read something in the Bible the other night.  It's found in Luke 10:39-42 and it says,
"She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what He said.  But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made.  She came to Him and asked, 'Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?  Tell her to help me!'  'Martha, Martha,' the Lord answered, 'you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed -- or indeed only one.  Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.'"
This was part of my Christmas Bible plan I'm going through right now.  Especially during this time of the year, how often do we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season?  Many people this time of year are thinking about Christmas plans, Christmas gifts, school mid-terms, and getting distracted by so much more. I, myself, have been very wrapped up in school this month so far.  Studying for the Introductory Psychology CLEP test has been difficult, and if you know me, you know that I don't deal well under stress.  I encourage you not to get caught up in "tomorrow", but live in the precious moment you're in.
"Yesterday's the past and tomorrow's the future.  Today is a gift -- which is why they call it the present."    ~Bill Keane
In other news, I passed my Introductory Psychology CLEP test this morning!  That brings me to 27 college credits!  I have one more test to go before I become a college Sophomore!

This week I'm thankful for...
141. fabulous performances of my church's Christmas play
142. being able to be a part of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
143. willing, helpful friends
144. another great LIVE for Christ meeting

How It Works and more

For those of you who have been wondering, follow this link to see how CollegePlus! works; to see how I'm earning my Economics degree...in high school!  If you're interested in enrolling, click here and you will get a discount!  As a Junior in high school, I have 24 credits with 3 more pending.  CollegePlus! is faster, for less, and for sure!  Let me tell you: you can't get much better than that!  Especially when earning your college degree!  And this program is not only for high school students.  It is for all ages who are looking to earn or expand their degree.  May I remind you that you are earning your degree at your own pace?!

Now that I got my biased advertisement out of the way... :)

Yesterday, we had our 5th LIVE for Christ meeting!  It went great!  We talked about Understanding the Fear of the Lord which is something we all need to be reminded of time and again.  How often do we worry about what others are thinking of us?  How often am I changing myself to "fit in" better with who I'm with?  Honestly, how often do we say to ourselves, "Who cares if they disapprove of this music!  What does God think of it?!"?Unfortunately, I don't say that very often.  Yes, I ask myself the latter part of that; "What does God think of ____?", but I also worry about what others are saying about it; about me.  My favorite song that talks about this (which also happens to be my favorite song of all time) is Beautiful Ending by BarlowGirl.  Love lost cause they all forgot Who You are/And it scares me to think/That I would choose my life over You/My selfish heart divides me from You/It tears us apart*chorus: So tell me/What is our ending/Will it be beautiful, so beautiful?/Will my life find me by Your side/Your love is beautiful, so beautiful.  Only God's opinion matters; He's the One Who'll be judging us in the end!

On Wednesday night was the Christmas performance at my church.  My mom, sister, brother, and I are all in the play: The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!  This play is hilarious and it's so much fun to be in!  Can't wait for Sunday when we perform it again!  Tonight, my family is going to a different Christmas play called The Gospel According to Scrooge.  I'm looking forward to seeing what it's like.  Next weekend, my dad is taking my brother and I to the sold out show The Story Tour.  I'm very excited to see that!  A night with Steven Curtis Chapman, Natalie Grant, Francesca Battistelli, the Newsboys, and Max Lucado?  Hurry, please! :)  It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, but not look like it.  There's no snow!  The paper-thin layer that's covering the ground right now doesn't really count.  In Minnesota, no snow is quite...unusual.  I just hope it doesn't get added to the end of winter, because that will be a looong winter!  I remember one year, we had snow till the end of May.  I think God skipped Spring that year... :)  Anyway, I just want it to look like Christmas by Christmas.

 Have a blessed day!

It's Sunday

Today's Verse: "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.' The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him."   ~Lamentations 3:22-25

Today's Quote: "Time is a very precious gift of God; so precious that it's only given to us moment by moment."    ~Amelia Barr

Today's Photo:

Today we had another Brazil team meeting.  I'm so excited!  We had a few more answers today such as a closer estimation price wise, what we'll be doing while there, and got a little closer at knowing the dates.  The big ball that was dropped was the price estimation...quite a bit more than we initially thought.  However, if God is calling us to go, He will provide!

This week I'm thankful for...
131. youth group
132. great dress rehearsal for the Christmas play
133. relaxing Sundays
134. texting friends across the country
135. informational Brazil meeting

Christmas Time

This time of year always makes me feel light-hearted.  For me, it starts with Thanksgiving -- a time to gather with family, share your thankfulness, and enjoy fellowship.  This year, we had family over at our house, which was a lot of fun.  In fact, it was unanimously voted that we host Christmas, too! :)  It was fun to see the guys in the family enjoying themselves -- my dad fired up the forge and the men did some blacksmith-ing.  After watching them for a while, the girls went back inside to chat (and eat chocolate and drink punch).  I also was busy going through dozens and dozens of ads and clipping out great coupons!

My sister, mom, and I stayed up and left our house about 11:30pm to drive to the nearest town with all of our "Black Friday stores": Herberger's, Kohl's, and JC Penney.  I was surprised to see how many men were out shopping with their wives at Herberger's!  It was pretty much me and five other men standing around the $10 14pc. Pyrex sets to find out how many we needed to grab!  We got to Kohl's about 2:30 (Kohl's and Herb's opened at midnight, if you didn't know), and decided at about 3:15 that we better get in line and take turns between looking around and standing in line.  To make a long story short, we were still in line at 4:45 with about an hour and a half to go.  Thankfully, we discovered a second line that everyone said was equally as long -- NOT!  It was WAY shorter: we jumped in at the back of the line at the 15 min. mark.  Anyway, I picked out a few Christmas presents for myself, so I know what I'm getting this year (it's better this way than getting something you don't want and having to wait in line after Christmas to return it).

I am pleased to tell you that I got my pajamas at JC Penney.  My tradition is to buy two pairs of pajamas a year...on Black Friday...at JC Penney.

We went to a few other stores and then headed home around 8am -- the entire way home I was nodding off, trying to stay awake to help keep my mom awake! :)  I slept from 10 to 2:30 and when I woke up, guess what we did!  Went shopping again!  This time it wasn't very exciting because we went to Cabela's and yes, their clothes are cute, but even on sale, I can't afford them!

Black Friday makes me so happy for two reasons.  One, because of all the sales!  Two, because it's the start of Christmas!  Friday night, I went on Spotify and made a 20 hour long playlist filled with dozens of Christmas albums, which I'm listening to now.  Also, on the way home on Friday evening, we saw mini-vans with trees atop them!  That's just a pretty sight to me.  Oh, and another favorite is the sound of bells outside of stores: the Salvation Army bell ringers!  Love it!

This week I'm thankful for...
121. Christmas music
122. beginning of advent
123. e-cards from friends
124. relaxing after a hard day
125. sleeping in!
126. family gathering
127. delicious food
128. Thanksgiving being a national holiday
129. Black Friday shopping with mom & sister
130. good deals :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope you have a lovely day with friends and relatives while you eat, be thankful, and maybe eat some more. :)

I wanted to share a couple verses with you.  I have heard these three verses uncountable times within the past week.
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Jesus Christ."    ~1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
 Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, everyone!

What Can I Say?

This week has been quite an adventure!  Let's start with Tuesday: an amazing day with God's blessings!

At the end of October, my mom and I applied for something.  Something big.  The week before this past week, we found out we were accepted.  On Tuesday night, we attended, with 15 others, the first meeting for our Brazil mission trip!  I am so beyond excited!  For a long time, I've felt God calling me to go on a mission trip, and here I am, embarking on an adventure that will be remembered for the rest of my life -- maybe even change my life.  God totally has His hand on this trip already!
You see, 17 people from my church applied for this mission trip: 7 men, and 10 women.  Our pastor got in contact with the missionary down there who we will be going to help and asked if 17 was too many.  When she wrote back, she said they have two rooms: one for men, and one for women.  The women's room sleeps 10 and the men's room sleeps 8 which leaves one bed for a translator.  If that's not God, I don't know what is!  I will be keeping you updated as time progresses and you're prayers would be appreciated!

Thursday, I woke up reeeaaally early (5am) to go with my dad to his work.  I needed to run some errands over there, and he had an empty desk for me to do school at.  I was so tired that day!

Friday, well, let's skip Friday because Saturday was more fun. :)

Saturday was one of the most epic days of my whole life...so far! :)  First, I started my day like I usually do by going for a walk with my mom.  Then, we went to play practice for our Christmas play at church.  I'll say right here that the only bummer of the day was that it snowed.  And it wasn't just a small, melt-when-it-hits-the-ground snow, it was 4-5 inches of snow.  Anyway, at 1pm the vehicles started rolling in, eventually bringing a whopping 25 girls to my house for LIVE for Christ's 1st Annual Harvest Party.  God had His name written all over Saturday!  We played games, had snack, made a cool craft, and had fun (at least, I hope they had fun!).  But, let me tell you, that wasn't the end of the epic day!

My dad (the dare devil he is) braved the snow storm and drove me an hour (well, what was supposed to be an hour) to a gathering of CollegePlus! students.  There weren't only students from this state, but we had four states represented!  I've been able to get to know some of them online and such, but was never able to meet these awesome people in person!  Sure, I was exhausted at the end of the day, but it was SO worth it!

When I got home, I cleaned up what was left from the party and curled up and watched a movie.  A great end to a great day.

This week I'm thankful for... *I'm a bit behind on this so this list isn't just from last Sunday to today*
101. a great LIVE meeting

A Verse to Share

Hey ya'll!

I just wanted to share a verse with you today:
"I am the Lord, the God of all mankind.  Is anything too hard for?"    ~Jeremiah 32:27
For no particular reason, this verse stuck out to me the other night as I was reading my Bible.  Think about it, is anything too hard for Him?  He created every living thing on this earth!  He died and rose again!  When He died, He took away every human being's sins!  Plus, He's done SO much more for each of us!  I think - no, I know - He's pretty capable of anything!

91. a small Bible study group
92. a doorknob on my door
93. Google Chrome
94. online Scrabble with friends
95. my Grandpa visiting

Following a Mission Statement

Recently, I was reading a book by Mindy Starns Clark.  In this book, the main character works for a very rich and generous man who gives grants to non-profit organizations.  The job of this main character is to research about the organization and determine whether or not they are deserving of this grant; she checks to see if they're using their money wisely, etc.  It is noted in the book that she always starts off by reading the organization's mission statement to see what they claim to do and be and then goes on to see if they actually follow this statement.

About a day after I read this book, my mom and I had a long discussion on following mission statements while we were on a walk.  In my post Great Expectations, I included my life's mission statement.  What my goal is for my life.  Anyway, on this walk, we talked about how it is so easy to stray from the mission statement that we have set either for our own lives, maybe a business, etc.  The phrase "easier said than done" applies very literally to this topic.  You can write an awesome mission statement in five minutes, and even mean it, but it takes patience, diligence, and God's help to actually follow the statement.

As you may know, I lead a discipleship group called LIVE for Christ in my home.  When you start a business or a Bible study, or, in my case, a discipleship group, you should have a mission or vision statement.
The mission of LIVE for Christ is to direct young ladies ages 8 to 17 to live their life honoring their heavenly Father.  Lessons focus on respecting the Lord, others, and themselves as they walk with the Lord.  Learning to fear Him, not man, and make the Scriptures a vital part of their lives is the main concept of LIVE.  Through lessons, games, and at-home challenges, girls are encouraged to live their lives fully for God as His daughters and be example to others by shining their light.
For me, it is sometimes challenging to make sure everything I plan in a LIVE meeting, ties back to my mission statement.  This also allows the girls' parents to know what their daughters are attending.  There are no surprises as far as activities they won't approve of.

This planning takes careful consideration.  I can't imagine how churches, youth groups, and large organizations can make sure their activities follow their mission statement.  I'm sure we can all come up with at least three church related activities that haven't matched their mission statement.  These inconsistencies can cause people to leave a church, can cause hurt relationships, and even cause a slow straying from God.

So what's your mission statement?  What's it for: your life, business, group or Bible study?  And, most importantly, are you following it?  Am I following mine?  Are we asking God for His guidance and help?

 Have a blessed week!

Pin Holes in the Curtains of Heaven

Every time I go to Trout Lake Camp, I feel so incredibly close to God.  The speakers are enthusiastic, easy to listen to, and present the Gospel in fun and clear ways; often including analogies from their own lives.  The bands are fun, talented, and put their whole hearts into the songs.  The games they plan are fun, fun, and fun (I don't know what else to say) :).  The food they prepare is pretty much great.  I've been to only a couple other camps in my lifetime and they don't even hold a candle to TLC's food.  :)

On Friday night, we drove in the driveway of TLC at about 8:45.  The highlight of that night was worship.  Unfortunately, the songs we sang were not the "traditional" Trout Lake Camps songs (such as Every Move I Make, Undignified, The Hippo Song, etc.), the songs we did sing were equally amazing.  My two favorite songs we sang were How He Loves Us and Inside Out.

On Saturday, after a terrible nights sleep (I'm not going to lie), our day consisted of food, TAG (Time Alone with God) time, chapel (which includes the speaker and band), game, food, lots of free time (which included....drum roll, please...the zip line!), food, game, chapel, and finally ending with the HUGE bonfire.  The bonfire was totally awesome because 1) it was big, 2) we could be outside and warm at the same time, and 3) it was nice to relax and get to know some of the girls better.  The zip line was crazy awesome, too!  But at chapel that night, there was a big party in heaven as a handful of pre-teens and teens accepted Christ as their personal Savior.  What a testimony!

Sunday, I didn't want to wake up (as opposed to Saturday am, when I was lying there awake waiting for the leader's alarm to go off so I could get off my squeaky bed), but we ate, did TAG time, went to chapel, ate, and left.

Lately, I've been hearing a lot about how vast the universe is.  I mean, I've heard about it in Sunday school, I read about it in Crazy Love by Francis Chan, now I heard about it at TLC, and there's one other place that I can't remember right now.  Information such as this: the Milky Way galaxy is 100,000 light years across; at the speed of light, you could travel around the earth 7-3/4 times in ONE second; that no one really knows how many galaxies there are in the universe, but there have been estimates that there are more galaxies than there are grains of sand.  Now if you think of how vast Milky Way is, and know that the Milky Way is in no way the largest galaxy out there, just think of how big and wide and of incomprehensible size the universe that GOD created is!  You think of that, and tell me how small we humans are.  We may be small, but we are in no way invisible to our God; we are in no way unloved by our God; we are in no way and never will be forgotten by our God, because our God loves each of us SO much!
The pastor/speaker told a story of a man who realized that the sky was this big, thick, black curtain covering heaven, but the stars were little pin-pricked holes in the curtain and they were revealing only a little (yet a lot at the same time) of God's glory.  So if you were to remove that curtain, only then would you see the fullness of God's glory.
There is no way to actually comprehend just how much God loves each of us.  No matter how many times we fail, His mercy remains.
That reminds me of a song we sang this weekend.  Inside Out is what it's called and it is written by Hillsong.  Below are the lyrics to this amazing worship song.
A thousand times I've failed
Still your mercy remains
And should I stumble again
Still I'm caught in your grace

Everlasting, Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, Your glory goes beyond all fame

My heart and my soul, I give You control
Consume me from the inside out Lord
Let justice and praise, become my embrace
To love You from the inside out

Your will above all else, my purpose remains
The art of losing myself in bringing you praise

Everlasting, Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, Your glory goes beyond all fame

Everlasting, Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, Your glory goes beyond all fame
And the cry of my heart is to bring You praise
From the inside out, O my soul cries out

My Soul cries out to You
My Soul cries out to You

Everlasting, Your light will shine when all else fades
Never ending, Your glory goes beyond all fame
And the cry of my heart is to bring You praise
From the inside out, O my soul cries out
My favorite line in this song is where it says, "The art of losing myself in bringing You praise".  Losing myself in bringing God praise and glory is an art?  If so...have I mastered that art?  Have you?

I'd like to share another song with you.  It's called How He Loves Us and it's by David Crowder Band.
He is jealous for me, Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden,
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us oh
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us all

He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.

And we are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If His grace is an ocean, we're all sinking.
And heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss,
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don't have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about, the way…

That He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.
With my arms raised, and tears almost breaking through, I sang this song.  God is a jealous god and He is jealous for me.  How am I able to comprehend that?  The majority of the song is made of five, very simple words: "Oh how He loves us!"  His love is like a hurricane.  Can you imagine: someone loving us SO much we're about to break in the wake of His love?  Imagine it...not only imagine it...believe it -- because it's 100% true!  We are drowning in His grace...what do you say to that?  Then the song says, "I don't have time to maintain these regrets/When I think about the way/That He loves us".  He loves us so much that He's put our past behind Him!  Why can't we?

It reminds me of this quote by an unknown speaker, "You don't need to worry about your future, if God is in your present, and your past is behind you."

So, you can't say I didn't warn you about the long post, because I did. :)

On a side note, I wanted to quick tell you about our last LIVE for Christ meeting.  We had 10 girls present, we did skits and talked about Gaining a Clear Conscience.  I'm planning a Harvest Party for November, so we're all looking forward to that!  Going to be lots of fun!  God totally has His hands on this group!

 This week I'm thankful for:
81. another great discipleship group meeting
82. learning about budgeting
83. Trout Lake Camps
84. pastors who are willing to speak at youth retreats
85. zip lines
86. trying to understand just how much God loves us
87. new, warm, red sweatshirts
88. catching up in school
89. journals
90. Microsoft Word :)

Congratulations if you read this whole thing! :)

My week

Well, this past week was pretty slow.  No youth group made the week even slower.  But, my weekend was fun!

Friday night, we were invited to an older couple's home for dessert.  They're from our church and have been very welcoming to us over the past couple months.  Anyway, we went over there and enjoyed ourselves immensely!  Mr. P collected cameras.  Now, when you read "collected cameras", remember the very first number you thought of and multiply it by 10.  You might be close to the actual number he collected. :) I won't say the exact number, but it was over 1,000.  And I'm not joking!  It was awesome!  He took my brother, dad, and I  out to his shop and we shot an antique pistol (with plastic bullets) at a target.  That was pretty fun, too, except, I didn't take advantage of blowing the smoke off it when I hit the bull's eye!

Saturday was a great day, also.  My cousin and his family came to see our house.  I haven't seen them since...March or April!  It was so fun and their kids are getting so big and cuter each time, too!  We had lunch, chatted, went for a little walk, and chatted some more.  After they left, I played some card games with my great grandma and won...once. :)  And I made some greeting cards.

Sunday wasn't anything super special except I stayed up way too late messaging with a couple of my friends.  That was fun!  We three haven't had a conversation together for over a year, so it was nice to be able to do that.

This week, like I said, will be pretty busy.  Monday, we have school (duh) and Bible study; Tuesday is actually nothing; Wednesday is youth group; Thursday I have LIVE for Christ and my mom's leading a Financial Peace University class (by Dave Ramsey) for teens and we'll be watching The Ultimate Gift (we talked about materialism last class); and on Friday....drum roll please!....I go on a youth retreat with my church to Trout Lake Camp.  I just can NOT wait!  I went to TLC from 1st to 7th grade for summer camp and miss it SO much.  Trout Lake Camp had such an impact on my spiritual growth and summer fun and thus, it is a large part of my life.  Even though this retreat will only be for the weekend, I can't wait to, once again, jump off their big zipline, run through their paintball course, rock climb, worship our precious Lord in that chapel full of memories, and sleep in those cabins which are also full of memories from years past.  So next week, make sure you have time on your hands before you head on over here.  I have a feeling it won't be a short post. :)

Thankful this week for...
71. Grooveshark
72. seeing cousins who I haven't seen in a long time
73. playing games with my great-grandma
74. encouraging cousins
75. elderly couples from church
76. finishing washing windows :)
77. excitement!
78. our new church home
79. people realizing the need of Jesus in their life and accepting His calling
80. my previous voice teacher

 See you next week!

An Update

Thursday was a pretty good day for me!  I love good days! :)  I had my second official meeting for LIVE for Christ (for those of you who don't know, that is my discipleship group.  LIVE stands for Living In Victorious Excellence.)!  It went SO well!  As I mentioned here, we had 7 girls last meeting consisting of 5 members and 2 visitors.  On Thursday, however, those 2 visitors became members and we had 2 more visitors for a total of 9 girls!  Now, I know I can't get wrapped up in the number, because it is certainly NOT about the number.  It is about planting seeds.  At this meeting, I planted the seeds of honoring your parents.  But, I have to say that the number does encourage the leader. :)  God is SO good though, and all of the credit goes to Him for the smooth-going meeting!  The girls greatly enjoyed the game planned by my sister and they also enthusiastically enjoyed the songs we sang: The Crayon Box Song, The Love of Jesus, and All in All.  It was so beautiful hearing them sing!

On Friday, I spent some time with a friend and we made some cards.  That was fun!

Saturday we got up early (8am after a late night is early) and went to church to run through our Christmas pageant: The Greatest Christmas Pageant Ever.  I am Narrator 1. :)  It'll be fun to see how far we come along!  It was a little difficult reading, though, as the scripts hadn't come in yet, so we were all sharing with 2 other people (sometimes more) and craning our necks to see what we needed to read.  Then we left for my grandpa's house.  We got there too late to wash windows as planned, but we watched a movie -- a good substitute. :)

Sunday.  For 5 hours, I washed windows.  Now, I had fun, don't get me wrong, but we were in a hurry and there were a LOT of windows to wash so I was wiped out afterwards.  Then we drove to my great-uncle's 90th birthday party.  If you have a family member who was in World War II, ask him for some stories.  Uncle Donnie's are great -- he's an awesome story teller!

Today, I started studying for my next CLEP test: Introductory Psychology.  While I know this study will bring up some unbiblical points, I also know that it will be very interesting to study and I know that the Holy Spirit will help me determine what is right and wrong.  I'm excited for this test!  Hopefully, I'll only need 3-4 weeks to study for this one. :)

Thankful for....
61. an amazing discipleship group meeting
62. Christmas pageants
63. time with extended family
64. 90th birthday celebrations
65. fun times with good friends
66. budget making :)
67. Skype chats
68. making homemade pizza without failing (yes, you read that correctly)
69. God's guidance
70. lazy days :)

 Have an amazing week!

October 11, 2011

I saw a rainbow last night.  The full arch -- beautiful and bright against the dark clouds.  The other rainbow next to it was not as bright, but nevertheless visible.  I was reminded of all of God's everlasting promises to us.  And that He keeps every. single. one.

Today's Verse: "Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."    ~Genesis 9:16

Today's Quote: "Just as there comes a sunbeam into every cottage window, so comes a love-beam of God's care for every separate need."    ~Nathaniel Hawthorn

I'm thankful for...
51. God's amazing promises
52. my awesome chiropractor
53. setting goals for school
54. a full, double rainbow
55. my Bible app
56. the example set by Philip (in Acts)
57. Google docs
58. the new film Courageous
59. getting together with friends
60. having an activity-free day

 Have a blessed week!

Courageous!

Last night, my family and I visited the theaters to see the Sherwood film Courageous.  How do you describe a movie that includes action, emotional moments, humor, and best yet, the clear, no shortcut presentation of the Gospel?  You really can't describe it.  What are you saying as you leave?  I was saying, "Thank goodness I brought all that Kleenex!" :)  But I was also thinking, Praise the Lord for giving me a man of courage in my life - my dad.

Without giving anything away, there was a "second story" going on where a father told one of his children "no" to something, they didn't like this answer, but that "no" was really for the child's protection.  I don't like the answers I get all the time from my parents.  But this was a good reminder that even if you can't see that they're protecting you right away, they are and it's all for a good reason.

Did you know that this movie brought in a gross of $8.8 million opening weekend?!  It's also #1 new movie in America this week!  I hope we've gotten Hollywood's attention.  If we support movies such as Fireproof, Soul Surfer, and Courageous, and don't support as many of the other movies in theaters, Hollywood producers will realize that we don't only want violence, gore, swearing, etc.!

If you're able, I encourage you to see this movie while it's still in the theaters.  Courageous has the prospective to make a difference in many lives.  Not only by openly sharing the Gospel, but by showing how to be a good father - not just a "good enough" father.  Not only by presenting the value of life and every moment, but by relating to those who have lost loved ones.  This movie can break through hardened hearts by it's wonderful "funny moments" and by it's honesty in every aspect.  We want to show Hollywood that we want this for our country!  Take your friends, take your family, or just take yourself.  The Holy Spirit will lead you if He wants you to see this move.  Please follow His leading.

If you have seen it, what did you think of it?  Post a comment -  I'd love to hear!

God bless you all and be courageous!

and yet another week goes by

I don't know how the weeks slip by me,  but somehow, it's Tuesday again!

On Wednesday, I took my Humanities test and I passed!  On Friday, my dad took my two siblings and I to a Renaissance Festival.  It's was...interesting.  There weren't too many people there, and those who were there were mostly students since it was education day.  It was fun -- I got a really cute bracelet.  But it was cold out.  I walked around with a fancy Renaissance-style dress on and my dad's sweatshirt hanging off my shoulders.  I'm sure I looked pretty ridiculous!
Saturday was also pretty cold.  We had a party for my dad's work.  I think (and hope!) everyone had a great time.  We had around 25 people, some swam, some played frisbee, and others just ate.  We're still eating leftovers and I have a feeling we will be for the rest of the week! :)

There's not much to update on.  Except that it's October!  I love fall, but I wish I would dress warmer on my morning walks.  I can't believe it's October -- soon it will be Thanksgiving, and then Christmas.  Except for me, my holidays go in this order: Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and then Christmas!  I LOVE going shopping on Black Friday.  The last few years, my mom and I have gotten up at 2am.  The few years before that it was 5am.

 This week I'm thankful for...
41. going through pictures with my dad and hearing stories of his travels
42. coupons and discounts
43. passing my college test
44. cleaning (you may never see me say that again -- cherish it!) :)
45. reading for leisure
46. going to a festival
47. staying up really late playing games with leftover party attendees
48. low-calorie, sugar-free frozen yogurt
49. productivity
50. beautifully colored leaves on the trees

 God bless!

There's a Place...

The other night, my family watched The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader after listening to Focus On The Family's audio theater version.  We've also recently listened to and watched Prince Caspian.  As I was listening to these two exciting stories, I was reminded that these C.S. Lewis children's stories are close allegories to the Christian life.  One of my favorite quotes from The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is below:
Lucy: "Aslan, will we ever meet with you in our world?"                                                Aslan: "You shall."                                                                                                         Lucy: "How?"                                                                                                              Aslan: "Because there I have another name.  You must learn to know me by that name.  This was the very reason you were brought to Narnia; that knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there."
At the end of this movie, as the credits start to roll, a song starts to fade in.  It's called There's a Place for Us and it's sung by Carrie Underwood.  Just a beautiful song!  And it has so much truth in it!  Here is the link so you can listen to it.

My favorite quote from The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is:
Aslan [to Lucy]: "But every year you grow, you will find me bigger."
Isn't that true with God, too?!  As we grow in Christ and in our faith, we find God majesty and magnificence to be bigger and bigger!

This week I'm thankful for...
 31. martyrs who leave powerful legacies
 32. Biblical allegories
 33. singers who have beautiful, strong voices
 34. high practice test scores
 35. long car rides while listening to audio theater
 36. great first discipleship group meeting
 37. sleeping in
 38. phone calls from far-away friends
 39. making plans with friends
 40. meeting new people

LIVE for Christ

As you may know, I led a Bright Lights discipleship group for about a year and a half in my old house.  Now that we've moved, I am unable to continue that group, but have decided to start a new one.  Although similar in some ways to Bright Lights, this group is called LIVE for Christ.  LIVE is an acronym for Living In Victorious Excellence.  We have two theme verses: Ephesians 5:8 which says, "For you were once in darkness but now you are light in the Lord.  Live as children of light." and Matthew 5:16 which says, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Today we had our first official meeting.  Last week we had an information meeting and had 5 come.  Today, though, the attendance was 7!  Praise the Lord!  I can tell that this group is going to flourish for the Lord.  We talked about living our lives for God and how He has a special plan for each of us.

I am so excited to see where God leads this group!  Whenever the time comes for me to stop leading this group, it'll be fun to say, "Look where God brought us!  We started with five, and now have ___!"  I can't wait to find out the blessings He has in store.

I'll be taking my next CLEP test next week -- Humanities!  If I pass this one, I'll have 24 college credits.  I'm a tad nervous for this one, but mostly excited!  I feel pretty confident.

 Have a beautiful day!

Sunday School Fever

Well, it’s been almost a week since I posted.  Blogging is really fun, but honestly, I had nothing to write about. J  On Sunday, I went to my first Sunday school class in…well, a long time.  Since moving, we’ve found a church we like, and have started to attend there regularly (the past two weeks).
Anyways, in Sunday school, I learned that we will be going through a video series called GOSPEL Journey.  A pastor named Greg Stier takes 6 teens up into the Rocky Mountains and presents the Gospel to them in 6 different sessions.  The thing is, each of the students come from various different “religious” backgrounds.  There is a Presbyterian, an atheist, and even a Wiccan.  Today Greg talked about how God created us to be with Him.  He opened up a discussion to his group about what they believe about Creation.  A couple of the students had trouble with believing that it was even remotely possible to take a rib out of a human to make another human!  Then Greg asked if they believe in one God, maybe a few gods, or no God at all.  We heard quite the speech from both the Wiccan and atheist!  It was all SO interesting hearing someone explain the Gospel to others who are firm in their religion.  One young woman is very open to new possibilities, but she is not a part of one religion or another.  However, she knows a lot about the Bible, and I can’t wait to see where this journey brings her within the next 6 weeks!  I also think this series will help prepare me to share the Gospel with others.  You never know when God might present a divine opportunity!

 This week I’m thankful for…
21. God providing in obvious ways
22. family who prays for me
23. fall weather!
24. quiet days to study
25. movie nights
26. walks with my mom
27. family game nights
28. reading late into the night
29. trying to be able to grasp the awesomeness of God’s creation
30. making new friends

Have a great week!

I remember that day...

Ten years ago today.  I know where I was; I know what I was doing; and I know what captured my attention.  My family was in another state visiting some friends; we were all sitting in front of their TV watching it live while someone was doing my hair.  I will never forget sitting there and watching an airplane fly into the first tower.  I will never forget rewatching it over and over again later that night in the hotel room.  I will never forget the second tower getting hit too...the smoke rising...the towers collapsing...the people standing in the streets...the horror that came with that tragedy.

The image above is one that is forever engraved in my memory, but when I first saw it, I was watching live footage.  Although looking through the photos today have triggered many memories.  At 6 years old, I must have sat in front of that TV for 3 hours watching the news.

I have to admit that until two years ago, when my family vacationed to Washington D.C., I thought the Twin Towers were the only buildings terrorized.  It was when we visited the Pentagon Memorial that I realized that wasn't the case.

The two pictures above were taken at the Pentagon Memorial, when I went in 2009.  If you look closely in the top picture, you can see the different colored bricks they used for rebuilding that part of the Pentagon.  The second picture is the memorial itself.  Each of those bench-looking things represent 2 to 3 people.  The benches (I think that's what they are) facing the Pentagon represent those who lost their lives in the plane; and the benches facing the road (us), represent those who died in the Pentagon.

While we were at this Pentagon Memorial, we saw a couple families who had gathered (separately) to pay their respects to their loved ones.  Whether it was the loved one's birthday, a wedding anniversary, or an early visit for the 8th anniversary of 9/11 (we went on 9/6)...whatever the reason, we were witnesses to the hurt of the ones still here.

I encourage you to take time to watch this encouraging and touching video.  This man is a walking testimony to how the Lord works in our lives!

Take time today to remember the 2,977 who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.  Pray for their families on this 10th anniversary of that tragic day.

 God bless America!
